Singles battles take the spotlight in Accra

After four days of thrilling team battles, the spotlight now shifts to the singles competition at the 2026 ITTF Africa Youth Championships.

On Friday, July 24, the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra, Ghana will once again ignite with intensity as players in the U-15 and U-19 categories step forward to chase individual glory.

The team event has already shown that seeding may not guarantee success. The defeats suffered by U-19 boys’ top seed Wassim Essid of Tunisia and Nigeria’s Matthew Kuti proved that nothing is certain in this competition. With the singles crown at stake, every player will be fighting for the ultimate prize when the tournament concludes on Sunday, July 27.

In the girls’ U-19 category, Egypt’s Yara Elbadawy has yet to drop a set, leading her team to victory in the team event and positioning herself as the clear favourite. However, challengers abound: Algerian sisters Jade Morice and Tania Morice, eager to avenge their earlier defeats, will be determined to upset the balance.

Egypt’s unbeaten duo, Asser Sameh and Ahmed Elsabbagh, who guided their team to the U-19 title, will look to carry their momentum into the singles draw.

Meanwhile, Tunisia’s Ela Saidi, despite falling short in the U-15 team final, remains a player to watch. She faces a formidable challenge from Egypt’s rising talents, who are intent on continuing their nation’s tradition of dominance.

Since former champions are now beyond the age limit, the stage is set for new kings and queens to emerge in both the U-15 and U-19 categories.
