...As Alberchin CEO, Dr Olanrewaju Decorated Ambassador of the Initiative
Following the nationwide launch of the School Safe Initiative, the Ogun State Police-Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Command has joined the host state's command to launch its Safe School Initiative to strengthen security around learning institutions and improve the protection of pupils and students across the state.
The initiative was supported by the IGP Olatunji Disu and PCRC national Chairman, Asiwaju Ibrahim Mogaji, formally launched on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at Nawair-Ud-Deen Grammar School, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
The programme aimed at involving school communities in security management while complementing the efforts of the police and other security agencies.
Speaking at the launch, the PCRC Chairman, Ogun State Command, Comrade Abdullahi Babatunde Lawal, said the initiative was in line with the Safe School programme of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu
Lawal described the initiative as a non-kinetic approach to tackling insecurity in schools, particularly kidnapping, banditry, hooliganism and other threats capable of disrupting learning.
He said the programme recognises students, teachers, principals, head teachers and other school personnel as important components of the security architecture.
According to him, the initiative would encourage pupils and students to promptly report suspicious activities to the police and relevant security authorities.
“Security management is not only meant for uniformed officers alone. The students, principals, head teachers and teachers are also part of the security architecture,” Lawal said.
He added that the PCRC had mobilised its volunteers across the state to support activities including traffic management, safe crossing of students and monitoring of security situations around schools.
Earlier, Alaja Balkis Olanrewaju Omogaji, wife of the PCRC National Chairman, said the initiative would help expose children to security awareness from an early age.
She stressed the importance of reorientating children on insecurity and encouraging them to understand their role in creating safer communities.
The Safe School Initiative comes amid heightened concerns over attacks and kidnappings involving schoolchildren in parts of Nigeria, with the PCRC seeking to strengthen community participation in protecting schools and ensuring a conducive environment for learning.
Also speaking, PCRC Zone B Chairman, Ven. Samson Kunle Popoola corroborated that the initiative represented a shift from advocacy to practical community-based security interventions.
He explained that the programme would operate from PCRC units and divisions to area commands, the state, zones and geopolitical levels, to extend the initiative to schools across the country.
He said the committee would also explore the deployment of technology, including CCTV cameras in selected schools, particularly those in rural areas, to facilitate real-time reporting of crimes and suspicious activities.
He urged school authorities, teachers and government agencies to cooperate with the PCRC, stressing that security was a collective responsibility.
He disclosed that the committee had engaged the Ogun State Commissioner for Education and other stakeholders to secure their support for the initiative.
He noted that PCRC volunteers were providing their services without salaries, adding that government support would be needed for infrastructure and other resources required to make the programme more effective.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State command also decorated Dr Olarenwaju Albert as its Ambassador for the Safe School initiative in Ogun State.
The decoration futher strengthen Ogun chapter of the PCRC, among others.
In his acceptance speech, Dr Olarenwaju Albert assured that he would do all he could to ensure success for the initiative in Ogun.
Dr Albert also donated 500 pieces of 60 leaves excercise book for the command to share across schools within the command area.
The Alberchin CEO disclosed that his interest in herbs increased after he went to China for advanced knowledge in herbal medicines, where he spent 10 years.
