Itauma-Hrgovic: Akwa Ibom Gov Eno Backs Nigerian-British Boxer Ahead of World Title Fight

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has sent a message of solidarity to Akwa Ibom-born boxing sensation, Moses Itauma, ahead of his highly anticipated IBF World Heavyweight Championship bout against Filip Hrgovic on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the O2 Arena in London.
Governor Eno, in his message, expressed support for Itauma as the young boxer prepares to step into the ring in a fight that has attracted attention from boxing fans in Nigeria, Britain and beyond.
Itauma, who has Nigerian roots through his Akwa Ibom heritage, is expected to carry the hopes of both countries into the heavyweight contest.
The fight also has special significance for Akwa Ibom, which is the home state of former world heavyweight champion, Samuel Peter, popularly known as the “Nigerian Nightmare.”
With the backing of his state and supporters across Nigeria and Britain, Itauma will be looking to make a major statement on the world heavyweight stage when he faces the experienced Hrgovic in London.
The bout is expected to further raise Itauma's profile in the highly competitive heavyweight division.
