A reporter with Ogun State Television, OGTV, Margaret Okunlola, has been honoured with the Outstanding Youth of the Year 2025 (Conventional Media-OGTV) Award by the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Ogun State Chapter.
The recognition adds to Okunlola’s growing list of professional achievements, having previously been named Staff of the Year 2021 (Reportorial), News and Current Affairs Directorate, OGTV, and Reporter of the Year 2024, Education Category (Broadcast) by the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council.
Reacting to the recognition, Okunlola attributed her achievements to God, while expressing appreciation to her family, colleagues, mentors and the management of OGTV for their contributions to her professional development.
She described OGTV as a major platform that had enabled her to explore her potential, innovate and uphold professional standards in journalism, broadcasting and digital media.
Okunlola, who currently serves as the OGTV Correspondent to the Wife of the Ogun State Governor, Mrs Bamidele Abiodun, said the opportunity had contributed significantly to her growth and recognition in the media industry.
She expressed appreciation to Mrs Abiodun for what she described as an opportunity to unleash her potential, which she said contributed immensely to her emergence as the Best Youth in Conventional Media 2025.
According to her, the award should not be viewed merely as an honour but as a call to greater responsibility in the discharge of her professional duties.
“I view this award not just as an honour but as a call to higher service to consistently deliver verified, impactful and excellent reportage, no matter how saturated the media landscape becomes,” she said.
The reporter also commended her family for their sacrifices and understanding of the demanding nature of journalism, particularly the late nights, early mornings and missed family gatherings associated with the profession.
She acknowledged the support of her father figure, Mr Hafeez Oyetoro and his family, the Soaga family, Bashorun Festus Kehinde and Mr Dipo Ogunfowora, Permanent Secretary in the Ogun State Civil Service, whom she credited with providing mentorship and encouragement at different stages of her career.
Okunlola also appreciated her professional mentors and former bosses, including Mr Biodun Alabi, Mr Tunde Sodeke, Mr Bunmi Adigun, Miss Mojisola Solaja, Mr Kayode Taiwo, Mrs Bisi Alarape, Mr Tunde Olaniran and Mr Dele Obadimu.
She remembered with gratitude Bukola Agbakaizu and Alhaji Akeem Akintunde, both of blessed memory, for their contributions to her career.
Speaking on her multimedia development, she specifically appreciated Mr Yemi Olatunji and Mr Quazeem for laying the foundation for her video-editing skills.
The award recipient further celebrated members of the OGTV newsroom and camera crew, noting that their teamwork, technical expertise and dedication had contributed significantly to her success as a field reporter.
She also expressed appreciation to her colleagues in the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council, and friends who had supported her throughout her professional journey.
Okunlola urged journalists across the broadcast, print and digital media to remain committed to the ethics of the profession by ensuring that only factual and verified information was disseminated to the public.
She said the media profession remained demanding but urged practitioners to continue striving for excellence and upholding the credibility of journalism.
The journalist’s major professional recognitions are Staff of the Year 2021 (Reportorial), News and Current Affairs Directorate, OGTV; Reporter of the Year 2024, Education Category (Broadcast), NUJ Ogun State Council; and Outstanding Youth of the Year 2025 (Conventional Media-OGTV), NYCN Ogun State Chapter.
Okunlola concluded by giving all glory to God for the privilege of life, career progression, and the opportunity to contribute to society through journalism.
