police arrest two suspected robbers, recover three pistols, 18 cartridges in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of an armed robbery and carjacking syndicate and recovered three locally made pistols and 18 live cartridges.
The suspects, identified as Adeyinka Onakomaya, 46, and Olayiwola Kehinde, 48, were arrested by operatives of the Anti-Robbery Team during a follow-up operation, the command said in a statement on Wednesday.
The operation followed the recovery of a stolen red Toyota Matrix allegedly linked to an armed robbery incident reported in April 2026.
According to the statement signed by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babasayi, the operatives sustained their investigation and followed leads from the initial recovery of the vehicle.
The police said the suspects were subsequently traced to their respective hideouts in the Babaode area along Idiroko Road, Ota, Ogun State, and the Command area of Lagos State.
Preliminary investigation, according to the command, revealed that the suspects, alongside other members of their gang, allegedly masterminded the April robbery and participated in several armed robbery operations and vehicle snatching incidents across Ota, Iju, Babaode and Atan areas of the state.
The police said a search conducted following their arrest led to the recovery of three locally made pistols and 18 live cartridges.
“During interrogation, both suspects confessed to their involvement in various armed robbery crimes within the region and are currently cooperating with detectives by providing useful information to aid the ongoing investigation,” the statement said.
The command, however, did not disclose the identities of the alleged victims or provide details of the specific vehicles reportedly snatched during the operations.
Meanwhile, the police said efforts had been intensified to track down and arrest other members of the alleged syndicate who are still at large.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Bode Ojajuni, commended the Anti-Robbery Team for its tenacity and commitment to follow-up investigations.
Ojajuni said the recovery of the firearms and arrest of the suspects underscored the command’s determination to dismantle criminal networks operating in the state.
He assured residents that the police would continue to intensify operations against armed robbery and other violent crimes.
The CP also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons, movements and activities to the police.
The command urged members of the public to contact the police through the Gateway Shield toll-free line, 0800 000 9111, or the emergency lines 09164859299 and 09154293464.
