Trump’s ‘human printer’: How Natalie Harp became one of the president’s most trusted gatekeepers

She is rarely the person addressing reporters from the White House podium, but Natalie Harp is increasingly difficult to miss whenever President Donald Trump is in the Oval Office, on the road or aboard Marine One.
At 34, Harp has emerged as one of the most visible figures in Trump’s inner circle, operating unusually close to the president and helping shape the information, news reports and social media content that reach him.
Her influence has drawn renewed public attention after she was reportedly among a small group of aides evacuated with Trump during a security scare in Turkey in July, when the president was secretly moved from Air Force One to a smaller aircraft following what officials described as a credible missile threat.
Harp’s presence around Trump is so constant that she has acquired the nickname “the human printer.” During Trump’s campaign and presidency, she has been known to carry a portable printer and provide him with printed news reports, social media posts and other information because Trump prefers reading material on paper.
Her role, however, goes far beyond printing documents.
Reports about the Trump White House describe Harp as a conduit through which information reaches the president. She has been seen sitting close to Trump during meetings, carrying a laptop and remaining within easy reach of him. According to reporting on her role, Trump frequently asks her to conduct internet searches, retrieve information and assist with his social media activity.
The official record also shows just how frequently she travels with the president. A July 15, 2026 presidential pool report listed Harp among the aides who boarded Marine One with Trump for a trip to Pennsylvania.
Another presidential travel record from July listed Harp among the White House personnel accompanying Trump on a trip to New York.
Her growing prominence is striking because she is not the administration’s principal spokesperson. Unlike White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt and other senior officials who regularly appear before cameras, Harp generally remains behind the scenes.
Yet her proximity to Trump has made her an important figure in understanding how the president receives information and communicates with the outside world.
Harp’s journey into Trump’s inner circle began years before his return to the White House. She first attracted Trump’s attention in 2019 after publicly praising his administration’s Right to Try legislation, which she said helped her obtain experimental treatment after a cancer diagnosis. Trump subsequently praised her publicly and invited her into his political orbit.
She later worked for One America News Network, a conservative media outlet, before returning to Trump’s political operation. By the 2024 campaign, she had become a familiar presence beside him, often carrying her printer and supplying him with information.
In January 2025, Trump appointed Harp as his executive assistant to the president. Government records and financial-disclosure documents identify her as a special assistant and executive assistant within the White House.
Her access has nevertheless generated questions inside and outside the administration.
Some reports have portrayed her as more than a conventional executive assistant, arguing that her closeness gives her unusual influence over what Trump sees and reads. Former colleagues and political observers have described her as a gatekeeper whose proximity to the president gives her considerable power.
The nickname “human printer” therefore understates the nature of her job. Her role combines elements of personal assistant, information researcher, communications aide and political loyalist.
Harp has also attracted controversy over material she has circulated or presented to Trump. Reports have raised concerns about her promotion of strongly partisan and, at times, conspiratorial material.
Despite the scrutiny, she remains a trusted presence in Trump’s daily routine.
Her presence during the July security scare in Turkey provided perhaps the clearest illustration of that proximity. Reuters reported that Trump was secretly transferred from Air Force One to a smaller C-32A aircraft after a credible and imminent missile threat emerged during the NATO summit in Ankara. The transfer was reportedly carried out using a catering truck to conceal the president’s movement, while Air Force One later departed as a decoy.
That Harp was among those close enough to Trump to be moved during such an extraordinary security operation underscored the unusual access she enjoys.
For Trump, loyalty has long been an important currency in his inner circle. Harp’s rise reflects that dynamic: she has remained close to him through political campaigns, legal battles, public controversies and his return to the presidency.
While much of the White House operates through formal chains of command, Harp appears to occupy a more informal lane — one built largely around personal trust and constant proximity.
That makes her one of the less visible but increasingly consequential figures surrounding the president.
She may not stand behind the White House podium, deliver major policy announcements or dominate television interviews.
But when Trump turns to ask for information, wants something printed, needs help with a post or boards Marine One, Harp is often there.
And in the world surrounding the 47th president, being “there” can itself be a source of extraordinary influence.
