The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has expelled former Agege Local Government Chairman, Ganiyu Egunjobi, and former Agege Constituency II aspirant, Azeez Yusuf, over their defection to the Allied Peoples Movement.
Egunjobi served as Chairman of Agege Local Government from 2017 to 2025, completing two consecutive four-year terms in office.
Egunjobi and Yusuf, who are political allies of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, had contested the APC tickets for Agege Constituencies I and II respectively before securing the APM tickets to contest the 2027 Assembly election.
The Lagos APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, announced their expulsion in a statement on Wednesday, accusing the duo of anti-party activities and disloyalty. He said their decision to seek another party's ticket after participating in the APC nomination process violated the obligations of party membership.
The development followed the duo's earlier defence of their defection, in which they described the move as a personal decision prompted by what they called “grave injustice” in the handling of the APC primaries. They also specifically denied that Obasa directed or encouraged their defection.
Ojelabi said the APC regarded their conduct as “a clear repudiation of the obligations of party membership,” insisting that members who lose internal contests are expected to accept the outcome or pursue legitimate avenues of redress provided by the party and the law.
The APC chairman added that the party had invoked Article 9(5)(II) of its 2022 amended constitution in expelling the two, declaring that they were no longer members of the party and could not speak, negotiate or transact business on behalf of the Lagos APC.
