Two teenagers confess to multiple shop burglaries in Ogun

Two teenagers have confessed to their involvement in multiple shop burglaries in the Ado-Odo area of Ogun State following their arrest by security operatives.

The suspects, identified as 16-year-old Taofik Abioro and 15-year-old Ogundele Monday, were arrested by members of the So-Safe Corps on Thursday and handed over to police detectives for investigation.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, the suspects confessed during preliminary interrogation to participating in several shop break-ins across Ado-Odo.

The police said stolen items were recovered during searches conducted at the suspects’ premises, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend an accomplice who was still at large.

In a separate incident on September 2, three teenagers were arrested in connection with the alleged breaking into a market shop.

The suspects, identified as 15-year-old Lateef Kalid, 16-year-old Kareem Jamal and 14-year-old Sofiu Alabi, were apprehended after community members alerted security personnel to suspicious movements inside a market stall around 3:30am.

The police said patrol teams were immediately mobilised to the scene, where Kalid and Jamal were allegedly found inside the shop with stolen foodstuffs and other items.

The command said further interrogation led to the arrest of Alabi, who allegedly admitted providing the key used to gain access to the shop.

The three suspects have since been charged to court, according to the police.

Commenting on the development, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended officers of the Ado-Odo Division for their swift response.

Ojajuni also praised the So-Safe Corps and members of the community for their cooperation with the police, stressing that collaboration among security agencies and local stakeholders was crucial to tackling criminal activities.

He urged parents, guardians and community leaders to strengthen supervision of young persons and discourage them from engaging in criminal activities.

The CP further advised business owners to improve security around their shops and promptly report suspicious movements to security agencies.
