The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 56-year-old man, Madarikan Emehinola, in connection with the horrific fire that claimed the life of his 40-year-old wife, Igbagbo Erobe, in the Igbo-Edu area of Ogun Waterside Local Government Area.
This comes as a follow-up to an earlier report by Newslife detailing the tragedy that threw the quiet community into mourning.
According to a press statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the case was initially reported at the Abigi Divisional Police Headquarters after community members raised the alarm over a house set ablaze with the woman trapped inside.
“The incident was reported at Abigi Divisional Police Headquarters on Sunday, October 18, 2026, following information that a house had been set ablaze, resulting in the woman’s death,” the PPRO stated.
Police sources disclosed that the deceased’s body has since been retrieved and deposited at a public mortuary where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death.
Following preliminary findings at the scene, the Command confirmed that the case is being processed for an immediate transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for a full-scale homicide investigation.
Reassuring the public and the bereaved family, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, stated that the Command would leave no stone unturned in ensuring justice is served.
“The matter will be investigated diligently and professionally in accordance with the law,” CP Ojajuni assured, reiterating the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and ensuring that perpetrators of grave crimes face the full wrath of the law.
The police command further urged residents of Ogun State to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities promptly, and provide credible information to aid ongoing crime prevention and investigative efforts.
