The Ogun State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists has honoured the first female Accountant-General of the Federation, Dr Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein, as part of activities marking its 50th anniversary.
Madein, who is the founder and Chairperson of the Olowo Oloye Foundation for Empowerment and Education, was conferred with the Golden Jubilee Ambassador honour on Thursday.
The council said the recognition was based on her record of public service, leadership in public financial management and contributions to the development of Ogun State and Nigeria.
The Golden Jubilee Ambassador honour, according to the NUJ, is reserved for 50 distinguished individuals whose contributions reflect values such as truth, accountability, justice and service to humanity.
In addition to the ambassadorship, Madein will receive the Golden Jubilee Excellence Award at the council’s grand finale and award ceremony scheduled for October 31, 2026.
She has also been selected as the keynote speaker for the council’s anniversary lecture billed for October 29 at the Iwe Iroyin Press Centre, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta.
The lecture, with the theme, “Truth, Trust and the Press – Protecting Democratic Choice and Rebuilding Public Confidence in Journalism,” will feature veteran journalist and former presidential spokesperson, Dr Reuben Abati; publisher of Premium Times, Dapo Olorunyomi; SAN, Kunle Kalejaiye; and former Ogun Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Yusuf Olaniyonu, among others.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Akinwale Olanrewaju, the council said Madein’s participation would add significance to the golden jubilee celebration and highlight the importance of integrity, press freedom and institutional excellence.
The council said the anniversary was also an opportunity to reflect on the media’s role in strengthening democratic institutions, promoting accountability and restoring public confidence in journalism.
