Pastor reportedly dies while preaching at Rivers burial

A pastor identified as Deacon Steve Eyo, the resident pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Aleto, in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, has reportedly died after collapsing while preaching at a burial ceremony.

Eyo was said to have been delivering a sermon titled, “The Certainty of Death and Hope Beyond,” when he suddenly collapsed while concluding his message.

According to an eyewitness account cited by local media, the pastor had been speaking about the inevitability of death and encouraging those at the ceremony to live wisely and prepare for the life hereafter.

The eyewitness said Eyo's sudden collapse initially caused confusion among mourners, with some reportedly believing that he was demonstrating the point he had just made about death occurring unexpectedly.

However, those present soon realised that the situation was serious as church ministers and other people gathered around him and attempted to assist him.

He was subsequently taken to a medical facility in an ambulance reportedly hired to convey the remains of the deceased whose burial was taking place.

The eyewitness account said Eyo was later pronounced dead at the medical facility and his remains were taken to a mortuary.

The incident has since generated reactions among people who attended the burial, particularly because of the subject of the sermon he was delivering before his collapse.

However, as of the time of filing this report, Newslife could not independently confirm the circumstances of Eyo's reported death with his family, the RCCG leadership or the medical facility where he was reportedly taken.
